Why am I so Horny | What Could be Behind the Experience of Persistent Sexual Arousal

by | Sensual Intimacy

Apr 8, 2023

You may have arrived at this article because you have questions about your sexual urges—why you´re so horny. Somehow, you think they are becoming problematic. But are they? What could be behind the experience of persistent sexual arousal?

This is a common question for individuals who may feel like they are always horny and find it interfering with their daily lives. We will delve into the possible causes of this phenomenon and examine the various factors that contribute to it. We will explore how hormonal imbalances, as well as psychological and social factors, may be at play. By shedding light on the science behind seemingly constant arousal, we aim to offer understanding and support to those struggling with this experience.

We answer the question: why am I so horny in the subsequent paragraphs of this article.

1. You are a Human

Sexual desire is a primal human desire. Humans, all of us, at some point or the other after puberty, are going to experience intense sexual desire.

You are horny because you are human. That is in no way something to be ashamed of or worried about. You are human, and that is it.

2. Hormone Spikes During Your Menstrual Cycle

The menstrual cycle is usually a 28-day cycle that involves the release of an egg from the ovaries. This cycle is under the control of hormones.

Hormones are able to make us feel intense sexual desire. So, when your hormones spike during your menstrual cycle, you will usually feel very horny.

Most women report feeling quite horny during their ovulation days. The body makes women feel this way because it is trying to ensure that the eggs released during ovulation are fertilized by the male.

A lot of women also feel quite horny around the time of their period. They may also notice changes in mood and countenance.

3. Stress

There seems to be a relationship between sexual desire and stress. Stress is considered an unwelcome stimulus by our bodies. So, in a bid to deal with it, our bodies often seek to introduce the sensation of pleasure.

This is why we often want to eat a lot when we are stressed—cortisol, the stress hormone, is responsible for this.

Stress makes you want to find release through sex, so you will usually feel very horny when you are stressed out.

Please note that “stress” used here also includes mental stress. If your sexual drive is becoming quite problematic to you, then it is time to deal with any stressors around you.

4. You See a Lot of Porn

Pornography has been known to increase the sex drives of its consumers. If you are a heavy consumer of porn, there is a big chance you are going to feel very horny from time to time.

Porn usually drives you to act out what you have seen. When you watch a lot of porn, you will want to try out the sex positions and sometimes even resort to viewing your partner as an object of pleasure.

This is when porn becomes quite harmful. We should never view our partners as an object for sexual gratification.

5. You are Anxious

Anxiety is considered a stressful situation, and our body tries to deal with it just the way it will deal with physical stress: by introducing pleasure.

This is why people who are anxious are usually addicts: sometimes, to drugs, and other times to less harmful stuff like stress and doom scrolling.

If you are wondering what doom scrolling is, you may want to check out the article “Doomscrolling | What is Doomscrolling & How to Stop it.”

If you suffer from anxiety, you are likely to be very horny. This is especially if you notice that sex takes your anxiety away.

6. You do a lot of Sexting

Sexting is texting in a very erotic way. It has been such a big thing recently. Most of the people we spoke to agree that they have tried texting at least once in their lives.

If you do a lot of texting, and especially if you do it with a number of people, you will likely feel horny most of the time.

Sexting can be fun and give you the thrill you need from time to time. But like most sexual activities, it can become problematic, and you may need help breaking that addiction.

7. You are Depressed

Depression, like anxiety, is a stressor the body usually needs help recovering from. If you are very depressed, you may have no sexual desire. This is normal for some. But if the depression is mild, it may present with a very troubling kind of sexual desire.

Sexual desire associated with depression is usually associated with another form of addiction.

If you seek to deal with sexual desire from depression, you will have to deal with the depression first.

8. You are Sex “Starved.”

This is common in people who are in long-distance relationships: people who see each other once in a very long time.

Their bodies become tired of waiting and seek sex more. It does not know that sex is unavailable.

Usually, the horniness reduces exponentially when their partners come around. The heart wants what it wants, they say. It is true. In the same fashion, the body wants what it wants.

9. You are Intensely Attracted to Your Partner

When we are intensely attracted to our partners, it shows an increased sexual desire.

Nene told us: “I love my partner so much. Sometimes just looking at him makes me horny. I could be going about my day, but the moment he crosses my mind, I become horny again!”

Henrietta told us something similar: “I don’t know how else to put this, but that man makes me very horny. Just looking at him seems to change the entire biological makeup of my body.”

If you find that this is your own experience, it helps to compliment your partner for it. You can say something like: “I think you are one of the hottest people ever. Just looking at you makes me horny.”

10. You Just Happen to Have a High Sexual Drive

Our hormone levels are not all the same. Some people have higher testosterone levels than others.

It is possible that your sex drive is associated with your being more biologically driven to have sex.
