You may not know this, but your diet, that is to say—anything you eat or not eat—can affect your vagina. Altering the P.H., taste, and sometimes, even smell.
In this article, I will be showing you how your diet affects your vagina and the best foods to eat when you are trying to get your vagina to optimal health.
How Your Diet Affects Your Vagina
Like other organs in your body, your vagina has a natural biome. That is to say, a conglomeration of life that is supposed to be on your vagina. This biome includes bacteria and some of your own cells.
Any damage to this biome is able to mess up the P.H. of your vagina and make it hard for you to stay healthy down there.
The bacteria that live on the surface of your vagina are able to keep other life forms from going there. When they are damaged, other life forms can then be seen on your vagina.
Foods high in sugar can make the bacteria less active, predisposing you to fungi infections like Candida.
Other foods that may not contain enough vitamins and minerals can make you less immune as well, making it easier for you to come down with diseases.
On the other hand, eating foods rich in fiber can give the natural biome in your vagina a better environment to thrive.
Foods that contain artificial hormones can be very unhelpful too.
This brings us to the big question: what foods should one eat for the best vaginal health?
This is a list of the 10 best foods to eat when you are trying to take care of your vagina.
1. Sweet Potatoes
If you are a lover of potatoes, this is good news for you.
Potatoes do not only taste good: they are loaded with a lot of vitamins and minerals, which can up your immune system and make it less likely to come down with diseases.
Sweet potatoes also contain a lot of fiber, and as we have seen, fiber is able to make the vagina healthy—and not just the vagina—the GIT too. The GIT refers to your gastrointestinal tract. That is your digestive system. Fiber has been seen to have an effect on insulin sensitivity.
You may wonder how this is important since we are talking about the vagina. I’d tell you why: it is important because people who have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) are known to have insulin resistance. Source. Fiber can fix this.

2. Probiotics
The term pro means to ‘encourage,’ and ‘bio’ means life. So, probiotics are foods that have been seen to encourage life in specific areas of your body.
They are not only good for your gut but may have an impact on your vagina. Take yogurt, for example; eating yogurt is able to help the biome of your vagina and make it easier for your vaginal P.H. to be regulated.
Do you know what a regulated vaginal P.H. is going to do for you? I’d start with the simple:
- It is going to make it more comfortable down there: there will be less burning and less itching.
- It is going to make you taste and smell better down there. Many people do not taste and smell good down there because their vaginal pH is not what it is supposed to be.
3. Water
We know health workers talk about drinking water a lot. We will be saying so, too. You have to know drinking water a lot can do a lot to keep your vagina healthy.
First, it regulates your P.H. and makes your scent and taste better.
Drink water as much as you can—and I recommend drinking water as soon as you feel thirsty. You don’t have to push drinking water forward. As soon as the urge comes, be sure that you are drinking some water.
Also, drinking water might have an effect on preventing vaginal dryness. If you struggle with a dry vagina, it may be because you do not drink a lot of water.

4. Fruits
Fruits contain a lot of vitamins and necessary anti-oxidants, so eating fruits as often as you can is a great way to keep your vagina healthy.
Some of the fruits I best recommend are citrus fruits and berries. Vitamin C contained in these fruits has been seen to help the body fight infectious diseases.
It is important that I let you know at this point that what you do when you are sick affects your vagina. When you are sick, do as much as you can and stay away from people who have had Candida or currently have Candida.
5. Leafy Greens
Leafy greens have been seen to help women who have dry vaginas. So, you may want to eat some more to get you juicy down there.
Other Points to Note
Do not Abuse Antibiotics
Antibiotics are drugs that kill harmful bacteria. But sometimes, especially in scenarios where they are abused, antibiotics may harm the good bacteria in the body, including the ones along your vagina.
This is why it is quite common for people who have taken antibiotics for a very long time may develop Candida. Candida is an infection of the vagina due to colonization by yeast. It causes itching, redness, and sometimes burning.
As much as you can, try to stay away from antibiotics. And if you cannot, don’t take them for very long periods. Talk to your doctor about your regimen, letting him know how antibiotics affect you down there, and he may change them for you.

Don’t Shave Everything
When next you shave, be sure not to shave everything. The hair around your vagina serves a rather interesting function. It is able to keep sweat from coming in contact with your bare skin, hence protecting you from sweat burns.
Do not Wash With Soap
When next you take a bath, keep the soap away from your vagina. This is because soaps are able to kill the bacteria that protect you and leave you bare.
The goal is to keep the natural biome of your vagina healthy.
