Germany Visa Requirements For Job Seekers

 

If you are interested in working and living in Germany, then this is a big opportunity for you. Germany gives visas to anyone who wants to live and work in Germany, as long as you meet the criteria. Furthermore, because of the good conditions in the labor market, potential workers from outside of Germany have a very decent chance in finding employment.

As of right now, Germany is searching for skilled employees in the following categories: medical doctors, qualified caregivers, technology and craftsmanship and hotel workers and gastronomy.

Most companies require that, apart from your qualifications and work experience, good German language skills in both reading and writing. Should you have these skills, at A2 level or B1, Then you should have no problem in obtaining the visa. However, there are exceptions in which you don’t need the language skills before you can apply. The most important requirement in this case is your marriage certificate, Then you have to learn German language A1 level. This is the beginner level, It will help you to understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences.

You can either learn it in Goethe Institut Lagos or from a private German language tutor. Next after that, you must apply and write the exam at the Goethe Institute Lagos. Your fee for the exam will be a bit higher than those who attend the Goethe Institute for preparation for the exam. 

Then, what comes next is booking for an appointment online through the official embassy website. Before the day of your appointment, prepare all the relevant documents which includes;

 

Relevant Documents

 

  • Wedding certificate from the registry
  • German language certificate A1
  • Completed visa application forms, (forms in embassy site)
  • If you or your spouse was previously married before, then you must include the divorce certificates
  • School certificates
  • Birth certificate
  • Wedding pictures
  • Passport
  • Passport photos
  • 2 filled questionnaires form concerning the verification process and
  • 2 signed declaration forms (on the embassy site) etc.

 

Here is the Document Checklist you will find all the detailed documents that are required. Remember to go with the originals of these documents and 2 copies each of all the documents except the application form. Then you go for your interview, make sure you arrive at the German embassy as early as 5:00am if possible irrespective of your appointment time.

You must carry in cash for your visa fee which you can find on the documents checklist, but you are exempt from fee payment if your spouse is an EU or German citizen. 

Furthermore, there is another fee you must pay for the documents verification process which may take 10 to 12 weeks (or even longer). This fee applies to everyone irrespective of your spouse’s nationality.

Then after the interview, all you have to do is sit back and relax and wait until someone will come checking all your detailed information you submitted for the verification process.

This is not so difficult. In a way the requirements are similar to joining a spouse in Germany. In this case if you are 16 years and above then you have to learn German language C1 level (certificate not older than 1 year old). This is an advanced level German.

The requirements in obtaining a German student visa in Nigeria is not as difficult as many people thought, and as well as the documents which are required for the Application process. So that they can be successful in actualizing their hopes and dreams. Most people believe it is very difficult to attain, and they end up wasting tons of money on agents, and at the end without achieving the right results. But I am going to tell you this… It is a very easy process. You only need to know the right steps to take and documents needed.

First step: Finding the right School

 

Studying in Germany is free for most schools, you don’t have to pay any tuition fees. It is better to plan at least 6 months before your travel date. What you need to do first is find a school you would like to study in Germany, either for a Bachelor degree, Master degree or a Language course, a good place to find a school is Daad website After finding the right school and the right course, look up the requirements and then make the application. 

Many schools offer courses in English language, while some schools require you to have a little understanding of the German language. There is an online portal called uni-assist which you will be directed to make the application on from some of the schools.

  • Travel document (passport)
  • Passport photos
  • Birth certificate
  • WAEC direct access card, etc.

And also you will fix an appointment for an interview.

Remember to be there very early, if possible by 5:00am irrespective of your appointment time. And also remember that you must certify your school documents either at the German embassy or at a public notary before the appointment day and make 2 copies each of all the documents. You will also pay a visa fee (on the documents checklist). Don’t forget to go with cash. Bank cards are not accepted.
