Like music and film, books can surely put you in the mood and help you have that intense connection in bed with your partner. We’ve gone through the best of the best and have decided that these 10 books are our most recommended if you are trying to get in the perfect mood for lovemaking with your partner.
1 The Highland Fling by Meghan Quinn
If you are a lover of literary writing, it’s most likely you have heard of Meghan Quinn. She is a New York Times Best Selling author known for her vivid descriptions and beautiful use of literary devices.
Her book, The Highland Fling, makes it to this list because of how smoothly the story is told. When one of our writers read it for the first time, his reaction was: “Boy! She knows how to tell stories.”
The Highland has a rich plot and strong characters. I’ll try not to spoil it for you. But except for the most intense twists and turns. And moments when you feel like slamming the book to the floor.
Our rating is closer to 8/10. Great book. It will definitely put you in the mood for action in the bedroom. You can always read it with your partner. Spice things up. Have one person read it aloud to the other.

2. Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas
If there is another author who has perfectly mastered the art of writing dark romance, it has to be Penelope Douglas. She brings into light the most bizarre and yet beautiful of affairs, and in a way that will have you wishing you were a character in her books.
But you are not a character there. You are a character with your partner, and of course, you can tell your own stories, with bodies and with strokes and touches, when you get down with each other.
Punk 57 is, to summarize, a love affair that begins on the internet, like most affairs these days. It progressively heightens into something of true beauty and, well, sensuality.
3. It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey
This is one of our editors’ top favorite books to put you in the mood. I think it’s this to her because of how glaring the images are.
Tessa takes you into a place where your imaginations run wild and free. Don’t feel weird if you begin to touch yourself whilst flipping. Ah, and if you are a woman and seeking ways to touch yourself better, you may want to check out this article of ours.
I promise you; there is something very unexpected coming around the third paragraph of this story. It’ll sweep you off your feet for sure.
4. A Sport and a Pastime by James Salter
Someone close to me has described James Salter as one of those authors whose works feel like cold water on very hot summer afternoons.
I think I agree.
James is nothing short of astonishing. With this book, he brings you into the life of a couple who have to find their way through love together.
The book “A Sport and a Pastime” is electrifying and will put you in the mood before you get past the twentieth page.
Great writing from a great author.

5. The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
Jasmine Guillory is a New York Times best-selling author. One can easily describe her as one of the most established novelists right now.
She writes well, and her novels seem to have this strong character building that may even make you feel like one of the characters.
The Wedding Date is not an exception. Reading this book will have you feeling like you are about to or have just gotten married to your partner.
The sex scenes are great. They pull you in. So that, sooner or later, you may start to feel like one of the characters.
6. Wallbanger by Alice Clayton
This book reminds me why erotica has remained one of the most purchased genres in the world.
It is, I am to describe in one word, beauty, just like its author.
Alice is one of the most poetic authors on this list. Maybe I am biased because I love her work so much. But even then, there’s so much potty in her work that one may even mistake her prose for poetry.
Her use of imagery in the Wallbanger romantic book is truly outstanding. I would have loved to discuss the plot, but I am under a self-served oath not to spoil anything.

7. The Last Nude by Ellis Avery
This is, so far, the oldest romantic book to put you in the mood on this list. I may have to break my oath here and deliver some spoilers. Please forgive me.
The Last Nude is a slow-paced story about a painter who runs into fame painting nude pictures of models.
Somehow, he falls in love with one of his models, who is Rafaela. Their love story becomes one that is wildly sexual.
I would easily rate this a 9/10. Some editors don’t agree with me. But guess whose article this is? (Yes, I am petty.)
8. Emmanuelle by Emmanuelle Arsan
When it comes to romantic books that make you wonder what inspired the author, Emmanuelle should sit amongst the first ten.
This book put me in moods I didn’t know existed the first time I read it. It’s a Classic International Bestseller. I should have known better than expect any less from it.
It reads like a memoir. And I love so much the clear depiction of sex. Would have you reaching for your partner’s pants, for sure.
9. You Made a Fool Out of Death With Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi
Akwaeke is a non-binary author that understands the concept of vulnerability. You will find pieces of her in all her writings. And, heck, there is this poetic essence that reminds you of music.
This You Made a Fool Out of Death With Your Beauty story flows so smoothly that it would be unjust to spoil it for you. There is a lot to laugh about and, of course, something to cry over.
10. Girl Meets Boy by Ali Smith
Ali Smith is a Booker Prize Shortlisted Author. I believe that should speak for itself.
You are in for a ride you and your partner may not forget. And I mean that both figuratively and literally.
Girl Meets Boy is one of the must-read romantic books that will put you in the mood because it explores themes of love, identity, and self-discovery through the unconventional relationship between two characters, with vivid prose and a progressive reimagining of the myth of Iphis and Ianthe.
