We’ve all been through that awkward stage at one point in our lives where we notice sudden breakouts of acne. Otherwise known as pimples or zits. Due to genetics, for some this phase quickly passes, while for others, it is a never-ending battle where they are trapped in the whirlwind of overwhelming breakouts, and after trying all sorts of products and skincare routines in hope of getting rid of acne, they still notice no changes in their predicament.

Most people cannot resist the urge to pop a zit or poke at their acne. By doing so they are not only promoting the spread of their acne but are also increasing the possibility of scarring the face. If you notice a zit, it is very important to avoid touching it at all. As it may irritate and spread to other areas of the face. But if you cannot resist, it is advisable to use a washcloth with hot water to excavate the pus then apply your spot treatment.
2. Take A Look Into Your Diet
Acne is caused when dead skin and oil clogs the pores. it has been noticed in various individuals that some foods tend to trigger their acne breakouts. Although this does not affect everyone, you should still keep an eye out for foods that may cause a sudden increase in your acne upon consumption, and try to steer clear from them.
3. Wash Your Face
As you already know, acne is usually caused when dead skin and oil enters and clogs the pores. So, you can imagine how difficult it will be when you have a naturally oily face and are trying to get rid of acne. It is almost impossible, but by washing your face at least twice daily, you combat the oiliness. Leaving your face oil-free and clean. This is very important because a dirty face is more prone to acne breakout. So wash your face as often as you possibly can.
Washing your face is a good first step, but it doesn’t end there. You still have to exfoliate. As you know, dead skin clogging the pores is a cause for acne breakout. So, to have rid yourself of the dead skin in the pores, you should implore the use of a good face scrub. Try to be as delicate as you can when using the scrub, as the skin on the face is very sensitive. If you notice any irritation when using the scrub, you should stop use immediately and seek aid from a dermatologist.
5. Ice The Zit
So you wake up one morning and notice a huge swollen zit on your face that’s causing pain, what do you do? Do you pick it? Of course not. All you have to do is simply get an ice cube, wrap it in a thin cloth; a handkerchief perhaps, and set it on the affected area for about 4-5 minutes. Repeat this step throughout the day to reduce swelling and relieve pain.
6. Apply A Paste Of Aspirin
Aspirin contains something called salicylic acid, a very popular and effective acne fighter. Applying a paste of aspirin will help remove excess oil and dead skin, while simultaneously reducing swelling and irritation. To make the paste, all you have to do is crush an aspirin pill, add a few drops of water, mix it, and apply directly to the affected area(s). This may seem like an uncommon treatment, but it is known to be very effective.
7. Use Makeup With Salicylic Acid
Sometimes you have no choice but to try to cover up your acne with makeup. It seems like a necessary evil when you’re trying to hide your affected areas. However, there are certain makeup formulas that incorporate the use of salicylic acid. It combats the acne whilst simultaneously covering it up. So, if you MUST use makeup, get your hands on one with salicylic acid in its solution.
8. Don’t Stress
So you notice a zit and naturally, you start stressing on how to get rid of it so you try everything. Then the next day you notice that the amount of acne seems to have increased from one to a few, then you panic. And the following day you have them all over your face. Why you may ask? Acne has been said to sometimes be stress-induced. So, instead, kick back, relax, see a dermatologist for possible treatment options. And just take your mind off it. You’d be surprised that the zits you were stressing over have suddenly vanished.
9. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is a very popular plant that seems to have endless uses, and yes, it can also be used as a treatment for acne since it contains salicylic acid and sulfur. Simply cut a fresh aloe vera leaf, remove the gel using a spoon, then apply directly to clean skin. Leave it in for about 30 minutes, then rinse off. Repeat this step twice a day; in the morning and before bed. Aloe vera also gives a moisturizing effect, so it will leave your face feeling soft and smooth. It is very effective when trying to get rid of acne.
9. Don’t Give In To Magic Solutions
Like anything else in life, to achieve results you have to be a bit patient. Your acne will not just clear up completely over-night, you have to be patient. Stick to your adequate diet, and proper skincare routines. Although it may be tempting to make some cure-all solution you saw online somewhere, but try to refrain from those, as using unknown substances on your face may irritate and even lead to an increased breakout.
So if you are having issues with your acne, try out any of these treatments you are comfortable with. Try your best to stick with it and create your very own routine focused on getting rid of acne. Goodluck.
