Like many people, I freely admit to sometimes falling into the trap of these subconscious habits without knowing. You will find some situations we experience in our day-to-day lives and how we sometimes react or respond to them unknowingly.
These subconscious habits have become routine for us, and often, we don’t think about them. These habits are stored in a way that allows the brain to focus on other things. Check out the things you do subconsciously below and comment on which ones you are sometimes guilty of.
1. When someone doesn’t wave back

When you wave at someone, and the person doesn’t wave back or acknowledge you. You subconsciously drop your hand slowly, land it on your head, give your head a little scratching, and then finally take your hand to your side. This subconscious habit can sometimes be embarrassing.
2. Feeling sleepy

When you are feeling sleepy in public places, depending on the person, some open their mouth unknowingly, while some subconsciously nod their head from time to time, and as soon as you open your eyes, you realize your position isn’t so cool. You just hope no one was already watching.
3. Deep in thought

Sometimes you will be so deep in your thoughts that someone may tell you something you will not answer immediately until maybe about a few seconds have passed, and then you answer or ask the person to please repeat what he or she says.
4. Trying to remember something

Sometimes you may be trying so hard to remember a name or an event that happened some time ago or something you are very knowledgeable about. They just escape from your mind all of a sudden; you will think so hard to remember the words or phrases but to no avail.
Probably when you don’t need them anymore, they just creep back into your mind without effort all of a sudden.
5. When you are cooking

You usually cook some foods from time to time; you know when they are ready. Also, when to check on them while the food is still on the stove or oven.
You subconsciously know precisely when to add the right ingredients and when the foods are ready to be removed from the stove or oven and served without the food getting burnt. You just subconsciously know when it’s time to do this or that, even without timing yourself.
6. When you are talking to yourself

Sometimes we talk to ourselves, whispering or mumbling words, making a conversation with ourselves like a dialog between 2 people. We ask a question and answer it.
Suddenly we became aware of what we were doing and hoped nobody saw us. So they don’t think maybe we are mentally Ill or something, and we may get a little worried because of this.
Sometimes it can be very embarrassing to catch yourself talking, especially in public places, for no reason. Sometimes you just need a little heart-to-heart with yourself or a little pep talk out loud.
It shouldn’t be any cause for concern when you find yourself unknowingly talking to yourself. According to psychologist Linda Sapadin, talking out loud to yourself helps you validate important and difficult decisions. “It enables you to clarify your thoughts, tend to what’s important or urgent and firm up any decisions you’re contemplating
7. When you are singing

Have you ever found yourself subconsciously singing a particular song? And you have no idea while you’re singing it. It just pops out of nowhere.
This usually happens because you heard the same music playing a while ago. Maybe on the radio, CD player, or someone sings it out loud.
However, you do not remember the source of the music. Your mind just kind of responds to it, and you start singing it before you realize you’re already singing.
This is one of the most difficult subconscious habits to get control of. Sometimes, it could even take up to a couple of days, and you’re still nodding to it now and then.
8. Cracking your knuckles
On many occasions, you find yourself cracking your neck or knuckles, all 10 of your fingers, popping your joints to make some noise.
You are already midway through it before you realize what you are doing. Still, you just keep doing it anyway because it feels cool and it’s enjoyable. Don’t worry; you are not the only one doing that subconsciously.
9. Waking up in the morning

After waking up from sleep, you checked the time, and it was 6 am; you decided to relax a little, maybe for another 5 minutes, and then you slept off.
The next time you wake up, it is 7 am, so fast you don’t realize it. In some cases, you even set the alarm; after it rings, you put it off, and then you sleep again without realizing it. Sometimes it takes a great effort not to fall back to sleep.
10. Watching videos on social media

Another subconscious thing you do without knowing is, watching commercials, infomercials, or advertisements, watching random videos that automatically come across your feed, watching an endless stream of YouTube videos, reading Buzzfeed, and other mindless entertainment.
The more engaging the content, the more you’ll keep on watching. Before you know it, you have spent some valuable time you planned on using for other important things.
Being guilty of these subconscious habits doesn’t mean you have a problem. They are totally normal. It happens to almost everyone.
Additionally, another surprisingly powerful influence on what we do comes from environmental cues that subconsciously trigger behaviors without us realizing it.
Sometimes it can be quite contagious. We can catch it through our daily contact with other people and even through social media.
Bonus: Another Subconscious Thing We Always Do
Before you commence your daily activities each morning, do you always glance in a mirror to check your haircut, your clothes, and how you look? I bet you do.
Sometimes, we may not have time to look thoughtfully for a long time in the mirror. Still, we usually take a simple glance subconsciously and then march off without thinking much of it.
